SUPPORTING THE 'Live Life Then Give Life' campaign There is a serious and increasing shortage of organ donors in the UK. Last year over 400 people died whilst awaiting an organ transplant and there are currently over 6500 seriously ill people on the waiting list whose lives are dependent on the gift of organ donation. Organ donation affects everyone. You are more likely to need a transplant than to ever be able to donate an organ... for more information see www.livelifethengivelife.co.uk.
SADP SUPPORTS NHSBT (BLOOD & TRANSPLANT) NATIONAL BLOOD WEEK LAUNCH AT WHITGIFT CENTRE WITH CROYDON MAYOR
Deepak Mahtani, Transplant Recipient and Trustee of SADP joined newly appointed Mayor of Croydon Eddy Arram, at the launch of National Blood Week on 11th June 2012 at the Whitgift Centre in Croydon. A flash mob performing "I'll be a hero" stunned the shoppers who stopped in their tracks.
Deepak said: "It is extremely important to raise the awareness and need for all communities to be involved in these issues of blood and organ donation. Different communities have unique health issues and also different blood groups. As a result, the more donors that sign up, the greater the assurance that if and when you need either blood or a transplant in an emergency, that it is available. Registering as a blood or organ donor costs nothing, but can mean the difference between life and death for someone."
