Aid to Myanmar (Burma) Cyclone Victims
May 2008

MyanmarRead the August update from our partners on the ground
“There are a lot of communication problems, transportation problems, no electric power supply, no water supply, no help for common people like us from the government, we are bound with fear and anxieties”

100,000 people are estimated to have already died as a result of the recent cyclone in Myanmar, and it would easily go up to 150,000 due to the government's hesitancy in allowing aid to flow into the country. Literally hundreds of thousands have been rendered homeless, lost nearly everything, and are now in danger from exposure, disease and starvation. These figures are beyond comprehension in terms of the immense human suffering.

Many in the UK have wanted to give but have been uncertain that their gifts will reach those in need.

We are collecting funds for one of our partners on the ground who has opened a channel to Myanmar through the northern border with India. A team of 300 people are already involved in distributing all that they have on hand to the worst affected areas of the country. Donations will be used for the immediate crisis and for longer term re-building of families and communities.

Currently working in the Maubin Township, Pantanaw Township, Pathain Township, and Myaungmya Townhsip in the Irawady Delta, and in Yangon division, targeting 20 villages of 12,200 families, the team are in urgent need of funds to buy relief supplies - and this is where we desperately need your help. Gifts both large and small can make a difference - to see how far your money will go click here - each individual life touched brings hope, and hope is desperately needed.
